Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Annette has been working as a graphic designer in Chicago for 18 years. Formally trained as a graphic artist, she is a graduate of Kent State University in Ohio. Her current works, displayed in the Andersonville Galleria, combine vintage window frames from Chicago’s past with modern pop-art comic imagery, and are created in mosaic glass. “The works, in my mind, pay homage to bold women characters by setting them into stone.” I like the idea of taking the 2,000 year old tradition of mosaic art and turning it on it’s head with bold statements of color and subject matter, perhaps not intended by the Romans,” says the artist.

Shapes were simplified and streamlined, curved letterforms were replaced by sleek, angular ones. This new look showed a variety of graphic influences, from the modern art movements of Cubism, Futurism, Vorticism and Dada; to the Russian Constructivists; and the exotic art of Persia, Egypt, and Africa.
