Famous Fido Rescue & Adoption Alliance kicks off Andersonville Animal Rescue Weekend! Stop by the store to visit with animals in need of adoption and maybe make a new friend. Look for other events throughout the weekend.

Join Andersonville institution Las Manos Gallery as they look back on 19 years in Andersonville with an exhibit of some of their staple artists.
6:00-9:00 pm – Edgewater Historical Society
A kickoff reception for The Plein Air Painters, featuring an exhibit and sale of original paintings of Edgewater scenes. Look for the Plein Air Painters on Andersonville sidewalks painting throughout the weekend. Free.
7:00 pm – Unity Lutheran Church
A special performance by Stockyards Theatre Project, a non-profit organization devoted to “giving volume to the voices of women”.
7:30 pm – Raven Theatre
The Big Knife by Clifford Odets. The story of Charlie Castle, a top actor and idealist, whose years of compromise for the sake of a Hollywood movie career have resulted in the slow destruction of his personality. This terrific play is based on Odets’ own caustic experience in Hollywood. Tickets can be purchased at www.raventheatre.com.
8:00 pm – Quest Theatre Ensemble
Andersonville’s beloved Quest Theatre presents Male Order Brides. Cheer on the hero! Boo, hiss and throw popcorn at the dastardly villain! This hilarious comedy for the whole family is guaranteed to make you think twice before saying “I do!” Admission, as always, is free! Tickets can be reserved at www.questensemble.org.

OPENING WEEKEND! 44 Plays for 44 Presidents is a chronological, biographical survey celebrating the comic, tragic and at-times surreal lives and legacies of American presidents from Washington to Obama. A remount of one of the biggest prime-time blockbusters in Neo-Futurist history, 43 Plays for 43 Presidents, originally produced in 2001, this election-season production comes with a shiny new ensemble. The Rivendell Theatre Ensemble burst into the off-Loop theater scene in 1996 with a groundbreaking world premiere of Anne McGravie’s WRENS, earning three Jeff Awards and solidifying Rivendell’s status as “a major force on the Chicago fringe” (Chicago Tribune). Now in their new home in Edgewater, RTE presents an all new cast in this moving semi-autobiographical examination of loyalty, morality, and duty during World War II. Stop by the store to visit with animals in need of adoption and maybe make a new friend! Participating Andersonville Arts Weekend businesses will also feature photographs of some of the pets looking for homes through the Famous Fido Rescue & Adoption Alliance.
Noon – 4:00 pm – Edgewater Historical Society
The Edgewater Historical Society celebrates the tenth anniversary of its museum at 5358 N. Ashland. Festivities include closing of the street next to the museum to display refurbished antique fire trucks. Many musical guests and refreshments will be served.
1:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Andersonville Galleria
Artist Carol Beals leads a Kumihimo loom fiber art demonstration.

Swedish American Museum
Free admission all weekend! See the Swedish American Museum’s latest exhibit, “The Enduring Designs of Josef Frank.” This traveling exhibition features the unique textile and furniture creations by the legendary Swedish Modern architect and designer.
