The centerpiece of our Andersonville Honors celebration this Thursday, April 9th is a one-of-a-kind, Andersonville-themed performance of Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind, which in its 26th year is the longest running show in Chicago theater! TML is The Neo-Futurists attempt to perform 30 plays in 60 minutes, and since they opened on December 2, 1988 they have given world premieres to over 9000 original plays. And Thursday night we will get 10 more!
The menu of Andersonville plays on Thursday will include such titles as The Screamer, Real life sadness filtered through fake Swedish performance art, Brown Elephant in the Room, and The experience at Andersonville Shoe Repair went something like this. AND each of the awards being given out that evening will be presented during an original play produced specifically for the occasion!
If addition to an amazing performance, the Andersonville Honors also supports the work of the Andersonville Development Corporation and their eco-Andersonville program, promoting environmental and economic sustainability in the neighborhood and across Chicago. Some of the coolest and most visible stuff in the neighborhood has been made possible because of eco-Andersonville, from the People Spots and bike corrals to the streetscape recycling and community compost programs to the great murals and public art (such as the upcoming You Are Beautiful campaign set to launch this spring).
