Description
Jenny Lind was born in Stockholm on Oct. 6, 1820. She was only 17 years old when she sang her first opera. She quickly became a favorite in the Royal Swedish Opera and soon, all over Europe, people were caught with “Jenny Lind fever.” She traveled to London in 1847, where she first became known as the “Swedish Nightingale.” In 1850 she participated in a highly successful tour with American showman P.T. Barnum.
This year, the 43rd year of the Jenny Lind Scholarship, the Royal Swedish Academy of Music has selected the 2008 “Jenny Lind” to perform in Sweden and the United States. This year’s winner is soprano Susana Stern and this June we have a chance to hear her perform at the Museum together with accompanist Anna Christensson, winner of the Otto Goldschmidt Music Accompaniment Award. For more information about Susana and Anna, visit www.fhp.nu Cost: $12 members, $15 non-members. Refreshments will be served. Reservations are recommended.
