A portion of your beer purchase at the Community Beer Booths at Berwyn, Balmoral and Catalpa during Midsommarfest benefits community non-profits: Friends of Peirce Elementary, Friends of Swift Elementary, Friends of North Park Elementary, Friends of Andersonville, and the East Andersonville Residents Council. All of the smiling happy faces who you see working the beer booth are their volunteers, and in the last three years we have been able to donate over $50,000 to great community organizations!
Who is Friends of Andersonville you might ask? They were formerly Friends of Trumbull Elementary, which sadly closed in 2013. However, that group has taken their energy and started FoA, and will be running their second-annual summer reading program for children from Peirce, Chappell, McPherson, and McCutcheon elementary schools in partnership with Women & Children First Bookstore and some other great Andersonville businesses. According to their website, the “program multiplies the effect of each dollar in the community from improving the lives and experiences of children to supporting local businesses to building a community around childhood literacy.” You can visit their website for more information, to learn how you can help, or to sign up for the summer reading program.
Of course, the rest of your beer purchase benefits the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce and the Andersonville Development Corporation, and supports their work all year long in making a strong, vibrant, and sustainable business district and neighborhood.
